In 2023 Uppercut dabbled in making maps for Epic’s smash hit Fortnite as part of the Fortnite Creator Program and using the newly-minted UEFN editor.

Ant Farm was the first of Uppercut’s Fortnite maps.

My Role: Level Design

I noted that most Fortnite were, of course, horizontal so I decided to design a map that depended on vertical play. I wanted a fast and dynamic environment that required players to think about their vertical position. The map is peppered with plenty of opportunities to move rapidly between floors including staircases, jump pads and open shafts.

Players must find and hold a capture zone to score points for their team. The zone moves to a new position every 60 seconds, forcing players to follow.

My Role: Level Design

Our second Fortnite map, Rave Wave Survival requires the players to make it through wave after wave of zombie-like attackers in a closed underground parking garage. The waves become increasingly difficult, and the players can upgrade their weapons by earning gold from defeated enemies.

I designed the layout so that enemies can come at the players from any direction, that there are no “safe areas” - players must fight and move continually. There are also a handful of “secret” areas that provide extra weapons and equipment.

Kaiju Survival has the players as giants in a tiny cityscape.

My Role: Level Design

Ever wanted to be a big player in a big city? Now you can!

In Kaiju Survival, players must defend against waves of enemies attacking a miniature city. Eliminating enemies allows the players to earn gold and upgrade their weapons from vending machines throughout the map.

Like Rave Wave Survival I designed this map to have no “safe spaces” - the enemies can attack players from anywhere, forcing them to stay on the move. Players are assisted by occasional airdrops carrying extra gold.
